100-year-old man continues tradition with granddaughter

Who says you have to be a kid to enjoy Halloween? Age is just a number.

Alfred Parent,100, has been dressing up for the occasion with his granddaughter Alisen Gaudet for the past four years.

“That’s right, for old men too,” Parent told paNOW.

He said he didn’t put up a fight when Alisen asked him again to get into costume with her on Thursday.

“No, they done the same thing last year,” he laughed.

This year they decided to dress up as the Little Mermaid and King Triton from the Disney movie. That followed a series of getting into Halloween garb that started as characters from the movie “Up.”

“We were always big fans of the Disney movies growing up, and when the movie “Up” came out, I thought Pepere fit the role perfectly,” Gaudet told paNOW. “So, when Halloween came around, we dressed him up and everyone loved it, and he secretly did too, so we’ve been doing it ever since.”

“It means a lot to have something fun for him to do with us grandkids still and he loves to get trick-or- treaters.”

Simone Gorieu, one of Alfred’s nine children, said he hasn’t always dressed up for Halloween.

“I think it’s incredible that he allows it to happen. I mean a lot of people wouldn’t want to be doing it but he’s a great sport and he enjoys it as much as she does, I think,” Gorieu said.

This year Parent participated in a Halloween parade at the Northern Lights Casino. Parent’s other granddaughter Alaisha Gaudet said it was his idea to participate in the parade.

“It’s fun yeah. I think he likes it even though he’ll be bitter about it and say ‘I don’t want to dress up this year.” When we do put the costume on and he gets to show everybody I think he gets pretty happy,” Alaisha said. “My younger sister loves to make him do crazy things, so she did that every year for Halloween.”
