Christopher Lake Legion ready for big fundraiser

The Christopher Lake Legion is ready for to put on their annual fall supper.

The event is set to go Sunday with the doors opening at 4:30 p.m. The Christopher Lake Legion has been putting on the meal for the past three years after the local church was no longer able to do it.

Legion President Dean Timm said there will be a wide array of food for people who come out, ranging from ham and turkey to a variety of deserts. Timm said volunteers have put in quite a bit of work to get ready for meal.

“We have about 700 cabbage rolls made by hand, by some of our members,” he said.

The supper is a big fundraiser for the local legion. All of the money raised from the supper will go toward helping cover the costs of maintenance for legion hall. Timm said the building, which was originally built in the 1960s, could use some upgrades.

“Like changing out electrical lines, to redo some parts of the kitchen so that things work better,” he said.

Currently the legion has 33 members, with not all of them active. Timm said while they are slightly smaller than the Paddockwood Legion they are just as active. The legion president said coming to the dinner is a good way to support the local legion. He added it is especially a good time of year to support a local legion with Remembrance Day right around the corner.

“You get to support by filling your face. It’s always a great way to support everybody,” he said.

In the past Timm said they have drawn around 200 people to the event. He said they are hoping this year’s meal to be the biggest one yet.
