Members of the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce are weighing in on the results of the federal election.

CEO Elise Hildebrandt said a Liberal minority government in Ottawa could change things.

“I think it’s going to be an interesting next couples of years for all of us, business and otherwise,” she said.

Hildebrandt said with the current house make-up, it could take a lot of persuasion to get any agenda passed.

The chamber CEO said they would like to see the issues which have affected the oil and gas sector along with agriculture dealt with. She expects to have a firmer grasp on the specific concerns of members soon.

“I am sure that’ll come as I chat with them some more,” she said.

One specific issue of concern for the P.A. chamber is the federal tax policy which Hildebrant says members would like to see reformed.

“One of the proposals that was put forward by our local chamber and the Battlefords chamber was the reform of actual taxes because they have not been looked at or reviewed since the 1960s,” she said.

Many of the concerns of the P.A. and District Chamber of Commerce are shared by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

In a media release sent out Tuesday, the organization’s CEO Steve McLellan said they are committed to pushing for the expansion of the Trans-Mountain Pipeline along with changing regulations surrounding large projects.

“While the country woke up with a new government, we are committed as ever to getting these actions undertaken to make Saskatchewan prosper,” McLellan said.
