Some Prince Albert residents will be without power temporarily Friday.

SaskPower will be replacing underground cables in the city’s southeast. To do this, residents living on Bliss and Eagle Crescents will have their power turned off from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry said making sure underground infrastructure is in good shape is important for the corporation.

“Underground cables caused about 35 per cent of unplanned outages in the province last year,” he said.

Cherry explained the cables they plan to replace are near the end of their life and replacing them now will help to prevent outages in the future. He added when underground cables fail they are more difficult to deal with.

According to Cherry, around 47 customers are going to affected by the planned outage.
