The Prince Albert Mintos improved to a perfect 7-0 start with a clutch 2-1 win over the Regina Pat Canadians (5-2) on Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Mintos remain the only team in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League yet to suffer a defeat of any kind.

After a scoreless first period, Austin McLean scored his first Midget AAA hockey league goal by banging in a rebound on the side of the goal.

Gabe Klassen made it 2-0 for the Mintos when he cashed in the power play. That’s already Klassen’s seventh goal in the five games he’s played since returning from the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks. Despite missing the first two games of the season, Klassen is tied for the league lead in goals.

The Pat Canadians didn’t go away quietly. Kyren Gronick made it a one-goal game with 5:02 remaining in regulation. The Pat C’s also had a late power play, but goaltender Spencer Welke cut across the crease to rob Pat C defenceman Ayden Third of a sure tap-in goal. Welke made 23 saves on 24 shots.

Before the game, the Mintos named forward Turner McMillen as the Hardest Working Minto for the month of September. McMillen has five goals and eight points through the first seven games.

The Mintos look to win their eighth straight on Sunday, when the take on the Tisdale Trojans (2-5-0-1) at 1:30 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
