Work at Second Avenue and 28th Street nearly finished

A summer of construction is wrapping up at Second Avenue and 28^th Street.

New streetlights are in place and expected to be switched on within two weeks, as soon as SaskPower finishes the underground wiring.

“The intersection is functioning 100 per cent right now,” Manager of Capital Projects Nykol Miller told paNOW.

“It’s just some final cosmetic updates, being able to remove the [old] streetlights, and the final landscaping in the area,” Miller said.

The new lights hang over the intersection from cantilever poles, allowing for the removal of the median light, which posed a collision risk.

Over the course of the summer, crews also added a right-turn lane, put in concrete pavement and replaced asphalt patches from past water main breaks with concrete.

Miller said aside from this one, the city has two major projects to finish before the snow flies. Service roads on the east and west sides of Highway 11 will be paved, and on Thursday, the final leg of the Rotary Trail will be unveiled.
