No free transit for election day

Oct 3, 2019 | 10:46 AM

P.A. city council has rejected a motion that would have provided free transit for federal, provincial and municipal election days.

“It’s not so much the cost to us as city administration but rather the revenue we are willing to sacrifice,” Coun. Evert Botha who argued in favour of the motion told council. I think it’s money… well sacrificed in this case to make sure we get a higher turnout in this federal election.”

Most councillors disagreed with him.

Mayor Greg Dionne, who returned to council on Monday after a short break health reasons, argued it was not the responsibility of Prince Albert to fund transportation for federal or provincial elections.
