Transwest Air and West Wind Aviation make altimeter fix

Oct 2, 2019 | 3:12 PM

Transwest Air and West Wind Aviation say they took immediate action to get an altimeter issue fixed with all their planes Tuesday. The company said it was part of a maintenance audit by Transport Canada and stressed it was nothing to do with the aircraft’s safety.

The fix—which involved the proper calibration of altimeters on the entire fleet—caused a delay in Prince Albert yesterday afternoon as well as a flight cancellation this morning, but the airline said scheduling returned to normal by the afternoon.

“It has to do with the maintenance protocol on altimeters,” West Wind Aviation president Michael Rodyniuk told paNOW. “It gets into much more technical detail than that, but really it’s a certification issue and a paper issue and had nothing at all to do with the aircrafts’ safety.”

Rodyniuk explained it was part of the airlines’ audit by Transport Canada and what is known as a Process Inspection (P.I.)
