Rawlinsons donate $1M to STARS for new helicopters

The STARS fleet renewal is getting a big lift from a $1-million donation.

Gordon and Jill Rawlinson, two of Saskatchewan’s most active philanthropists, are making the gift to help STARS upgrade its fleet to the Airbus H145.

“Jill and I have always looked for ways to give back to Saskatchewan, our home province, which has been very good to us,” Gordon Rawlinson said. “STARS provides a vital service which reaches every corner of our province and we have been proud of our partnership from the very beginning.”

In recognition of the donation, STARS is renaming its Mobile Education Unit. It’s to become the Rawlinson Mobile Education Unit (MEU).

The MEU is a motorhome retrofitted with an emergency medical simulation room. It allows STARS crews to provide critical care training to rural health-care professionals at no charge.

The MEU features a human patient simulator which replicates complex medical and traumatic problems so that medical personnel can practise their reactions and skills.

Gordon Rawlinson is the CEO of Rawlco Radio, which owns and operates seven radio stations in Saskatchewan and Alberta: 980 CJME, Z99 and Jack 94.5 FM in Regina, 650 CKOM, C95 and Rock 102 FM in Saskatoon, and Soft Rock 97.7 in Calgary.
