A changing of the guard has taken place for the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce.

At the board’s annual general meeting Wednesday, Ian Litzenberger passed the gavel to incoming Chair Jason Hurd. Hurd told paNOW his priorities include more diversity in business ownership.

“Diversity is a great strength of our community, and I think that trickles down to the business ownership here too,” he said.

Hurd, one of the principal architects at AODBT Architecture and Interior Design, has been a chamber member for five years. Hurd recognized the community’s business community is not perfect, explaining one of the weakness he has noticed is a shortage of succession planning.

“You know I see a lot of older businesses maybe going out of business because they haven’t planned for the next generation; fixtures that are in the community that you’d like to see continue but maybe haven’t been able to,” he said.

Also at Wednesday’s board meeting, two new board directors were elected: Tanya Tootoosis from Northern Lights Casino and Diane Herzog from Loraas Environmental.

Other members of the new board include Tracy Feher (first vice chair), Bill Powalinsky (second vice chair), and Phil Hounjet (treasurer).
