North Battleford business pre-approved to build cannabis facility, produce hemp

North Battleford’s Envirosafe Chemicals Canada (Envirosafe) has announced it received approval from Health Canada to embark on two new projects.

It has been pre-approved to build a cannabis cultivation and processing facility, effective as of Sept. 11. It was also awarded a licence to produce industrial hemp as of Aug. 23.

Envirosafe said in a news release Tuesday the pre-approval to build the cannabis facility “is the green light Envirosafe has been waiting for” to secure funding to begin construction of its planned cannabis facility. The new facility will be an expansion of Envirosafe’s existing site on Thatcher Ave.

For hemp production, the company plans to process and manufacture products and derivatives from locally-grown hemp.

The firm said by obtaining the hemp licence it will be able to start producing “a low-cost, high-quality extraction” of pure cannabidiol (CBD) that is derived from a sun-grown hemp biomass from a local outdoor cultivation site in North Battleford.

The pure CBD extracts will be refined into a CBD oil that could be consumed directly or be infused into a range of products for distribution.

“These two highly anticipated announcements are of great significance for Envirosafe’s next steps into cannabis growth and production,” Envirosafe president and CEO James Davey said.

He added how the company aims to produce high-grade, quality clean cannabis products free of additives to provide relief from unnecessary suffering, as an alternative to chemical means by offering a natural resource for healing.
