Summer Encore

Today’s weather could beat a 131-year-old record

After what could generally be described as a disappointing set of summer months, Mother Nature could be sending Prince Albert and region off with temperatures for the record books.

Environment Canada is predicting a potential high of 29 Celsius for Sept. 16, which could match or beat the old daily-high record.

“The old record was 29 C, set way back in 1888,” Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada said. “It’s really nice to see because the average values for this time of year are only running in the mid-to-high teens, so well above normal.”

It’s not just Monday. Daytime high temperatures have topped out in the mid-20s since Friday.

This warm stretch of weather has been a long time coming. Lang said the last time Prince Albert saw temperatures close to recent degrees was early in August.

“That was about the warmest stretch we had [all summer] until now, so it’s good to see that warmth,” she said.

Astronomical summer is slated to start on Sept. 23, 2019.

Cooler Temps Ahead

Meanwhile, the heat isn’t the only weather story on people’s minds.

The Weather Network has forecasted a cold winter ahead for Canadians.
