Prince Albert North Search and Rescue are looking to teach the public about what to do if they get lost in the woods.

The Hug a Tree and Survive session is set to run Thursday night at the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library. Joel Perrault, president of P.A. North Search and Rescue said sessions like the one Thursday night are an important part of what the organization does.

Perrault said the presentation will offer attendees advice on what to do if they get lost in the outdoors. One of the main points the session will focus on is the need for people to stay in one spot and not move around which makes it easier for them to be found.

“Hug a Tree basically speaks for itself,” Perrault said.

Preparedness for the outdoors will also be discussed.

Perrault added they recommend people download the AdventureSmart app on their phones, which has some helpful information.

“On that app it talks about trip planning and what you can do to prevent getting lost,” he said.

P.A. North Search and Rescue has been giving the sessions over the summer months and Perrault said they are happy with the number of people who have been coming out. He hopes to reach out and get more kids to take part.

“It’s been very well received,” he said.
