Marauders show fight against the Bears
The St. Mary Marauders senior football team showed some fight in their comeback attempt against the Aden Bowman Bears, but just ran out of gas and time as they fell 42-24 Friday at Max Clunie Field.
The Marauders fell behind 14-0 four minutes into the game after the Bears were able to take advantage of good field position. The Marauders, who have abandoned the punt from their playbook, turned the ball over on downs in their own territory twice and it ended up back in their endzone.
The Bears got their first possession on the Marauders’ 35 yard line and running back Connal Wagner scored from 24 yards out. The Bears extended their lead to 14-0 when Bronson Boechler scored on a pass from Greg Boechler from 25 yards away, just four minutes into the game.
The Marauders were able to crawl back into the game in a hurry. Bauer Swystun had a 39-yard screen on a long drive, setting up a screen pass to Carter McDougall from two yards to cut the score to 14-7 early in the second quarter.
