‘Batman’ accused of mail theft

Sep 6, 2019 | 12:00 PM

A man who was allegedly wearing a very distinctive ‘Batman’ cap, while stealing mail, is now in custody.

Mason Bird, 30, made his first court appearance Friday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. He faces a total of 14 charges including mail theft, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing a crime, and four counts of breaching a court order.

The incident happened August 29. Police have said the suspect entered a multi-dwelling building in the 500 block of 27th St. E.. It’s alleged he used some sort of tool from his utility belt to pry open the front door. Once inside the building, the suspect then proceeded to open several mail boxes.

There was extensive damage and the thief made off with personal mail, but before he could make a clean getaway, his image was caught on the building’s security camera.

Prior to Bird’s arrest, the incident had been posted Thursday morning on the Prince Albert Crime Stoppers Page. One woman commented “Ironic isn’t it, Batman fights crime, this dude does them.”
