The first Canadian Tire Thunder in the Pines Truck and Tractor Pulls at the exhibition grandstand was a success.

On the last stop of the Prairie Pulling League (PPL) circuit, event coordinator Ralph Boychuk said they had an estimated 3,000 people attend to watch both Friday and Saturday evening combined. All of the proceeds will go to the Rose Garden Hospice.

“We were extremely pleased with how everything turned out we had great attendance on both days [and] it exceeded our expectations of our first annual,” Boychuk said. “Even the weather cooperated.”

Boychuk said they are inclined to do it again next year, but it will be the PPL’s decision if they want to come back to Prince Albert.

“These folks made a special consideration for our event given it was for the charity we’re a part of but I know they were really happy with how we ran it,” he said.

Overall, he said the event went smoothly and drivers gave compliments on the condition of the track. This included driver Joe Hoffart who told Boychuk it was the best track he had driven on.

Boychuk said people who had attended didn’t realize the magnitude or the intensity of the event.

“There was a lot of first timers that just wanted to see what this was all about and their eyes and expressions were just wide open,” Boychuk said with a laugh. “When you bring something like tractor pulling it’s just another level of excitement and amazement.”

Boychuk said there is nothing set in stone for upcoming Rose Garden Hospice fundraisers, but teased at more down the road.
