P.A. area man pleads not guilty to illegal hunting charge
A 59-year-old man from the Prince Albert area will have the opportunity to share his side of a hunting story, when he appears for trial in December.
Doug Risling has pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaching section 12 of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Act, which prohibits a non-Treaty person from helping someone with Treaty status hunt for food. Risling was not present at his scheduled hearing Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court, but his lawyer Gordon Kirkby entered the plea on his behalf.
According to court documents obtained by paNOW, Risling was issued a $1,400 ticket last fall in the Fort a la Corne area. The trial date has been set for Dec. 16 at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
This is not the first time Risling has been accused of hunting violations. In February 2015, Risling killed an elk on private farmland near St. Louis. He later pleaded guilty to four charges, including unlawfully hunting elk, unlawful possession of caribou antlers, illegal storage of a handgun and possession of a restricted handgun without a licence.
