Parade Route

Parade route takes slightly different path

Jul 29, 2019 | 10:23 AM

A signature kick-off to the Prince Albert Exhibition is the parade which will begin tonight at 7 p.m.

Jim Wilm, the secretary for the Prince Albert Lions, the organizing group for the parade, said this year’s route has a slight change.

“We found in the past when we came up Sixth Avenue, it seemed to get a little confusing because it was a high traffic area,” Wilm told paNOW. “We wanted to stay off where there is large amounts of traffic and keep it as safe as possible.”

The updated route starts at 14th Street beginning at First Avenue. It then travels south on Central Avenue to River Street. The route turns at Eighth Avenue East and ends at the exhibition grounds.

Wilm reminded spectators to stay off the parade route while the floats are moving.

“That’s one of our biggest concerns, that for the safety of those watching that they stay back,” he said. “We’ve advised our parade participants that if they are going to give anything out, that they must take it out and hand it to them.”

Wilm said the parade is an integral part of the Prince Albert Exhibition and important to the P.A. branch of the Lions.

“I’ve been involved with the Lions sice 1970 and we’ve always been a part of the parade and as of now looking after the parade,” Wilm said.
