A longtime summer event is set to kick off real soon.

The Prince Albert Ex will be running from Tuesday, July 30 until Sunday, Aug 3.

Robbie Ross, president of the P.A. Exhibitions said this year people who come out will get to witness the return of a popular event.

“This year we’ve brought back heavy horses. We have a heavy horse pull running Friday evening at 6 p.m. in front of the grand stand, then again on Saturday afternoon at noon,” he said.

Ross said he received requests from the public to bring back the heavy horse pull. According to Ross the event was originally done away with due to them not being able to get enough exhibitors willing to take part. This year 19 people have signed up.

“Calgary Stampede this year had 20, we had 19. We’re just as big as the Calgary Stampede,” he said.

Ross said there is also more entertainment for people this year. Specifically, to Kiddies Day, which will be different from past years.

“We’ve got Donny Parenteau and Roger Boucher are teaming up to put on a fun filled day of activities for the kids,” Ross said.

So far sales of wrist bands for the midway are doing well. Ross said this has them optimistic about attendance numbers when compared with last year, especially with the current weather forecast.

“We are quite a bit ahead of last year, so we are expecting a good jump in attendance this year. Last year we were right around 25,000. We’re shooting for 30,000 plus this year,” he said.

Festivities will be kicking off on Monday evening with a parade, which will be running down River Street to Eighth Avenue E.
