City looks to ban single-use plastic retail bags

Jul 15, 2019 | 5:00 PM

The City of Prince Albert is asking for the public’s opinion in a new survey in regard to the banning of single-use retail plastic bags.

A short, three-question survey is now available on the city’s website, according to Director of Public Works Wes Hicks.

“This was brought up recently in council for the administration to investigate the possibility of removing single-use plastic retail bags,” Hicks said.

“We are very early in the analysis of this issue but felt that it was important to hear from the public so that all perspectives are considered in advance of that decision.”

Hicks also noted in recent years single-use plastics have become something of a hot topic, and it has grown increasingly more difficult to recycle plastics, leading to the decision to research alternatives, or the elimination of single-use plastic items.

The survey will be open until Friday, July 26 and can be found at www.citypa.ca. The results will be shared with the city’s planning advisory committee.
