Police ask public for information at one-year anniversary of homicide

The Prince Albert Police Service is asking the public for any information which may help lead to an arrest, as July 13 marks the first anniversary in the death of Jordan Ballantyne.

PAPS and EMS responded to a call of a male down in a yard near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 20th Street E. on July 13, 2018. The man was later identified as Ballantyne.

Ballantyne’s death has been deemed a homicide and continues to be investigated, according to Sgt. Travis Willie with the Prince Albert Police Service.

“Our members with the criminal investigation division to continue to investigate this file. The reason we have sent out the release at this time is the one-year anniversary and to put a call out to the public again,” Willie said.

“Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to contact the police service so we can have investigators speak with them. Even if you’ve called or spoken with the police before we are asking for them to call again so we can go back over details.”

Willie added the most miniscule of details may lead to the crime being solved and encouraged anyone with any form of information to reach out.

The criminal investigation division can be reached at 306-953-4238, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“We need the public’s help. Even if you think something is a small detail that doesn’t matter, we’re looking for any information at all,” Willie added. “We’re really just appealing to the public.”

A walk will be held in Prince Albert Saturday, to commemorate the anniversary of Ballantyne’s death.

“We’re doing a memorial walk for my brother Jordan, he’s actually my cousin but I’ll always consider him my brother because I grew up with him,” walk organizer Ann Merasty said.

“Tomorrow marks a year since he was murdered. We just want to do this walk to try and get some answers and we want whoever murdered him to know that we aren’t giving up and we need justice done.”

The walk will begin at 7 p.m. and will begin at Sixth Avenue and 20th Street E., the location of Jordan’s death. Merasty added anyone is welcome to join the walk.

“We’ve gotten a lot of support. A lot of people have said they are going to join us so I’m really grateful for that,” Merasty said.

“Jordan had a lot of friends, a lot of people knew him. Some one out there has to know something about what happened to him,” she said.
