Prince Albert’s midget lacrosse team capped off a successful season last weekend.

The P.A. Trappers clinched the provincial crown with an 8-6 victory over Regina at provincial competition in Saskatoon. Trappers coach Javan Bexson said this year’s team truly stands out.

“Hands down the most talented team that P.A. has probably ever seen in long time and could go down as the greatest group of kids we’ll ever see,” he said.

Heading into the final game the Trappers were undefeated. To get to the final the P.A. team dispatched Saskatoon in the semifinals. The Trappers saw some impressive individual performances over the weekend from Caidyn Prediger, who was named a tournament all-star and from Bauer Swystun, who was named most valuable player. Bexson said the team also got a strong effort from goaltender Mason Hawkes.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better goaltending performance all weekend from a kid. He’s got a very bright future ahead of him,” he said.

The city’s bantam team as well competed at provincials, the P.A. Smokejumpers brought home the silver medal after falling by a score of 4-3 to Swift Current.

Bexson said the results are nice to see and he is optimistic about the future of the sport in the city.

“It’s awesome to see the kids putting in the time to get better in a sport that’s a short season, but the kids are absolutely loving it,” he said.
