PAPS responds to stolen vehicle, man with machete

Prince Albert Police responded to almost 300 calls for service this weekend, including a stolen vehicle, a youth being assaulted, and a man with a machete.

Two women are facing charges of robbery after a woman reported her SUV was stolen from the 500 Block of Ninth St. E. The woman reported that she and a group of friends were sitting inside the vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, when they were approached by a group of people who threatened them and took the vehicle.

Police arrested the two female suspects soon after the incident. The vehicle was recovered following the arrests.

Over the weekend police also charged a 22-year-old man with assault with a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with an incident in which a 12-year-old boy was sprayed with bear mace.

The assault happened in the 600 Block of Fourth Ave. E. around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The boy was treated at the scene by Parkland Ambulance for minor injuries. The suspect and the victim are known to each other. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.

In other police news, a 27-year-old man is facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and uttering threats in relation to an incident Saturday in the 1000 Block of 13th St. W.

Police were called to the area around 4:30 p.m. for a report of a man chasing a woman with a machete and threatening others in the area. The man will appear in court in Prince Albert today. The suspect and the victim are known to each other. No injuries were reported.
