La Loche RCMP arrested two men accused of trafficking cocaine after executing a search warrant on a home in Clearwater River Dene Nation.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man and a 15-year-old youth once they gained access to the home. The youth was arrested for mischief under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle and arson. All his charges were unrelated to the warrant execution.

As police searched the home, a group of people approached the residence. A 43-year-old man confronted officers before his arrest.

Police seized items consistent with cocaine trafficking, a significant amount of cash, a firearm, ammunition, a replica handgun, BB guns and brass knuckles.

Kennan Sylvestre, 21, was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of proceeds of crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unlawful possession of an identity document.

Casey Piche, 43, was charged with trafficking cocaine, assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

All three suspects were released and are set to appear in La Loche Provincial Court Sept. 9.
