City not looking at changes to residential parking time limit

A change by the City of Saskatoon to increase the amount time vehicles can be left on residential streets has not caused a stir at Prince Albert City Hall.

Saskatoon amended its bylaw extending parking limits on residential streets from 36 to 72 hours.

paNOW reached out to Prince Albert’s Transportation Manager, Keri Sapsford after Saskatoon increased its parking limit.

Sapsford said the current bylaw allows Prince Albert residents to leave a vehicle parked for 48 consecutive hours.

“Parking on the street is meant for more short-term parking; for guests or someone coming and going. That’s why we have those limits in place,” Sapsford told paNOW.

She added a change to the bylaw has not been brought up.

“Right now it’s not on our radar, 48 hours is two days that you can leave a vehicle parked on the street. That allows us to better enforce parking issues,” Sapsford said.

She also mentioned that once bylaw gets a complaint of a vehicle being parked too long, the vehicles tires will be marked and another 48 hours has to pass before a ticket can be handed out.

When paNOW reached out to the city of Saskatoon on the reason for the time change, it was to allow their residents more flexibility for parking on un-restricted residential streets.
