Gas leak at P.A. trailer court

Jun 13, 2019 | 4:29 PM

SaskEnergy crews were dealing with the repair of a gas leak Thursday that affected up to 75 customers at the Eastview trailer court just south of the city.

A leak was reported Wednesday night and a technician using detection equipment was able to locate the underground problem in the early hours of the morning, according to SaskEnergy spokeswoman Casey McLeod.

“They hydrovaced a hole where the leak was and squeezed off the line to make sure no more gas was leaking,” she told paNOW. “Then in the morning, the crews started the repair.”

paNOW heard reports of flames in the park and McLeod said that was normal procedure as crews dealt with the fix.

“It’s called flaring, which is where we purge some of the natural gas in the line to make sure all the air has been removed,” she said. “The specialized equipment allows them to do this safely and it’s better for the environment.”

She said at no stage was anyone in danger and there was no need for any evacuations because of the leak.

Residents were expected to have their supply re-ignited by the end of the day.
