Saskatchewan Party members have picked their candidate to go up against Nicole Rancourt in Prince Albert Northcote.

Alana Ross, came out on top after the party’s nomination meeting at the P.A. Exhibition Centre. She defeated former MLA Victoria Jurgens and former municipal councillor Martin Ring.

“Well it’s all kind of overwhelming at the moment and very exciting,” said Ross after winning the nomination.

Ross, who is a healthcare professional and instructor, had an energetic group of supporters with her during the meeting. Many of them were showing their support by wearing purple shirts with her name on them. After the results were announced, Ross received loud support, with many waiting to take pictures with her.

“I had just an absolutely fabulous team that I forgot to thank in my thank yous, but they worked, everybody worked, so hard,” she said.

The nominee not only stressed the importance of her team of volunteers, but also that leading up to the nomination they made sure to reach out to people.

“Getting out and seeing people and talking to people, my speech talked about talking and listening and that’s exactly what we did,” she said.

Going forward, Ross said she and her campaign have identified a number of issues they feel need attention, including addictions and mental health.

“It’s one thing for us to say we need this, but it’s another thing to find out, what does the community think they need,” she said.

The party did not disclose the exact numbers of how many votes each candidate got, but a party official estimated around 130 party members voted in the nomination contest.

The next general election is slated for the fall of 2020.
