Venue change announced for Relay For Life

Jun 5, 2019 | 5:09 PM

Organizers of the annual Relay For Life on Saturday have decided to make a venue change.

The prospect of cold and wet weather prompted them to move the high-profile survivor celebration and cancer awareness event inside to the Alfred Jenkins Field House. It had been scheduled to take place at Kinsmen Park.

In a media release event co-chair Lyle Karasiuk said “being outside when it is damp and cool is not enjoyable for survivors, teams, entertainers and volunteers.”

The Alfred Jenkins Field House is available Saturday so Karasiuk said announcing the move today would “give people time to adjust.”

“Everything will continue as planned with teams and entertainment on the turf at the Field House and teams walking the B & B Track on the third floor where the luminaries will be situated,” he said.

According to the organizers all the originally scheduled events of the day will continue as planned at the Field House on Saturday:

Noon – Opening Ceremonies

12:20 p.m. – Survivors’ Victory Lap

6 p.m. – Caregivers Recognition

6:30 p.m. – Head Shaves and Hair Cuts for Cancer

10 p.m. – Luminary Ceremony

11:45 p.m. – Closing Ceremonies

Scheduled entertainment will continue on stage on the turf area of the Field House:

11 a.m. – Wilf and Irene Savisky

1 p.m. – Warren Beatty

2 p.m. – Trudel Family

3 p.m. – Dennis Adams

4 p.m. – The Spin S2dio (exercise)

5 p.nm. – Willy Marcotte

7 p.m. – Rod Gjerde

8 p.m. – Larry Krause

9 p.m. – 2 Speed Axel

10 p.m. – Luminary Song performed by LJ Tyson

The public is invited to attend the event with luminary sales available all day.
