Men accused of robberies in P.A. elect trial

Two 20-year-old men accused of committing a string of robberies will be tried by a judge alone in Melfort’s Court of Queen’s Bench.

Brandon Peeteetuce and Dorion Loessel appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on June 4 to elect their trial preference. As both will face trial in a superior court, each will have a separate preliminary inquiry at a later date which will determine if there is sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.

Both are charged with assault with intent to commit robbery and disguise with intent. Peeteetuce is also charged with armed robbery, tampering with a serial number, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and breach of a youth sentence order. Loessel is also charged with assault with a weapon and breach of probation.

The charges stem from incidents on March 4 when a group of four allegedly robbed a Prince Albert gas station with a firearm, then travelled to Jansen and Spalding where the group is alleged to have attempted further robberies. All were arrested south of Invermay.

The two women in the incidents, 22-year-old Rikki Steinkey and 23-year-old Tonisha Fulton, still have future court dates.

Steinkey appeared in provincial court twice in April where both of her cases were adjourned to June and September respectively for two separate preliminary inquiries.

Steinkey’s Prince Albert charges include armed robbery and party to offence of robbery. Her Melfort charges include assault with a weapon with intent to steal, use of a firearm in an attempted robbery, and being at large of her recognizance.

Fulton, who is charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and party to offence of robbery, was released on bail on March 14 and elected to be tried in Melfort Queen of Court’s Bench on Aug. 1 in front of a judge alone.
