Multiuse Facility one step closer to completion

The community of Birch Hills is one step closer to completing their new Multiuse Facility, following an open house held in conjunction with the Community Garage Sale, which took place Saturday.

According to Shirley Ulvild, representative with the Multiuse Committee, the facility will be used for a variety of activities.

“We started this project a few years back when we realized the seniors needed a new place to be. The building they are in is very old and has a lot of issues,” Ulvild said.

“The Co-Op building became available at the right price and is still in very good shape. We’re raising funds as we go along, and we have done very well so far but it’s a big project. It will house a library, and a common room which can be used by members of the community. The Lions Club will have club rooms in there as well, and it will have a full kitchen right up to code as well.”

The open house held on June 1 featured tours of the facility, a band and dancing, and a beer garden all set towards raising funds.

“We had a great turnout, we haven’t had time yet to get the exact numbers on how much we raised though,” Ulvild said.

“The walls are all up now, and the rooms have all been divided off. We have a lot of volunteers that are helping us out and that has just been wonderful.”

The next fundraiser for the site will be held in the fall according to Ulvild, although details are still being worked out.

Also currently underway is the Race to 100, in which 100 people are being asked to donate $1,000 towards the facility. An area of the facility will be set aside following completion which will serve to honour the 100 contributors. Anyone interested in being involved in that aspect can contact the Birch Hills town office.
