The greatest play this past weekend during the Prince Albert Slo-Pitch league’s opening tournament, had no reflection on the score of any game.

During the first inning of his team’s opening game Saturday, Blair Hamilton led his longtime girlfriend to the pitcher’s mound and proposed to her. Hamilton told paNOW he felt it was the right place and time.

“We wanted our friends around, we wanted our families around if they could be here, which they were,” he said, adding he had told his teammates and the umpire in advance what he planned to do.

Hamilton and his now fiancee Dani Henson have been together three years and have a one-year-old daughter together. Henson said she had no idea what was going on, when Hamilton suddenly turned to her and said they had to talk to “Derek” (the pitcher).

“I was more annoyed at first, I was like what are you doing, what are you making me do,” she laughed.

Moments later Hamilton got down on one knee, and pulled out the engagement ring.

“I told him to stand up, I was like don’t do this here, why are you doing this, because he knows I dont like to be in the spotlight,” she said.

Regardless of Henson’s timidness, Hamilton did not strike out and the couple is now engaged. No date has been set yet for the wedding.
