Outlaws and Steelers draw Preds lock down 1st

Jun 2, 2019 | 9:11 PM

A game that could have gone either way went neither way Sunday night at the Kinsmen Arena. The Prince Albert Outlaws (3-3-1) and the Saskatoon Steelers (1-2-2) had their chances, but in the end the game ended in a 15-15 draw.

Outlaws attacker Cody Schwan completed his hat trick with 4:25 left in the game to give the Outlaws a 15-14 lead. It looked like that lead would stand, until Jaydon Nystein scored his seventh goal of the contest with 1:48 left.

The Outlaws and Steelers will have a rematch on Friday in Saskatoon for both of their next games.

Preds lock down first

With one game left in the junior ranks of the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League, the Prince Albert Predators locked down first place with a pair of road wins on the weekend.

It started off with a comfortable 15-4 victory over the Estevan Big Dogs.

Predators’ Tanner Vancoughnett had a huge game scoring six goals and adding two more assists.

Sunday’s game was a little more eventful as the Predators came back from a 10-7 deficit with 16 minutes left in the game to beat the Standing Buffalo Fighting Sioux 13-10.

Predators’ assistant captain Steven Soyko scored three of his four goals in the latter half of the third period, including the tying and winning goals, to lift his side.

With that, no junior team can catch the Predators as they are 7-0-2 with one game left, June 13 at home against the Saskatoon SWAT (1-7). That’ll be at 8 p.m. at the Kinsmen Arena.
