The John M. Cuelenaere Public Library is hosting a diverse offering of art for its most recent show.

The library’s gallery is featuring work from students attending Christina Thoen’s Art School. The school’s students range in age from eight to 75. The student’s created their work with guidance from Thoen, who has been running her art school since 1995. Theon said the work on display is truly impressive.

“The skill level is unbelievable, so you go and look and you’ll know for yourself. It’s a pretty incredible show there, I don’t know where you’d see anything like it,” she said.

This year, students who have been in her classes for 10 years are displaying their work. The show officially opened to the public Thursday night. Thoen said the turnout for the opening was so busy there was only standing room available.

The displayed works include several mediums from coloured pencil to watercolours. Besides individual pieces, the show also has a large collaborative piece done by all the students of Monet’s Red Boats.

Thoen said she hopes the people who take in the work will come away from it thinking about getting involved themselves.

“I am hoping that they are inspired to think about taking an art class and realize that they too probably have hidden talents,” she said.

There is no admission cost and the show will run until June 25. Tickets are available to sponsor the collaborative piece and donations are accepted to help students who can’t afford classes.
