Montana’s Wagner wins Day 1 of Clunie-Cooper Memorial

May 30, 2019 | 9:58 PM

Cole Wagner only needed one successful ride to win the 14th Annual Clunie-Cooper Memorial Professional Bull Riding event Thursday at the Art Hauser Centre.

The 85 points Wagner from Valier, Montana in the long-go was enough to crown him champion in the first day of the Clunie-Cooper.

Wagner got the full eight seconds on bull Turn Back Time, from Prince Albert’s own stock contractor Flying 4 Bucking Bulls.

Fort St. John, B.C.’s Jake Gardner, who entered in the event twice, finished second with 84 points. Aaron Roy from Yellow Grass, Sask., one of the most celebrated Canadian bull fighters in history, finished in the third with 83.5 points.

Prior to the event, the Prince Albert Raiders showed off the Ed Chynoweth Cup and celebrated with the crowd.

Day 2 of the Clunie-Cooper Memorial will be on Friday, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
