Summer paving season off to hot start

Orange construction signs may be popping up faster than dandelions this summer in Prince Albert.

The City of Prince Albert has a total of 30 paving projects planned and 10 underground projects. Public Works Director Wes Hicks told paNOW the warm weather this past week helped crews get off to a quick start.

“We have already completed two small projects and two more will be done by the end of the week, and then starting our fifth one by Monday morning,” he said.

One of the bigger projects underway right now is a section of River Street W. from Central Avenue to Third Avenue W. The project was originally scheduled for completion June 4 but crews have managed to get ahead of schedule and paNOW has learned the road closure may be lifted by the weekend. Hicks was asked if he has received any complaints related to drivers, either ignoring signs or speeding past workers.

“I mean it does happen on occasion, but for the most part it’s been pretty good,” he said.

A full list and map of the city’s planned projects this year can be found on the city’s website. A running spreadsheet can also be found, which outlines the status of the projects.

A total of $3.9 million has been budgeted by the city this year for paving and roadways projects.
