Young child escapes crash with minor injuries

May 24, 2019 | 11:51 AM

A close call late Thursday afternoon prompted Parkland Ambulance to remind drivers and pedestrians to be extra careful.

Around 5 p.m. a six-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle at the corner of 15 Ave. E and 15 St. E. Lyle Karasiuk, Director of Public Affairs for Parkland Ambulance, said drivers need be extra aware this time of year.

“We obviously need to watch for kids who might go chasing a ball, a pet, or just not crossing at the corner where they have been instructed to,” he said.

Luckily the young boy suffered only minor injuries and has been treated and released from hospital. Karasiuk said there is also an onus of responsibility on pedestrians.

“We as pedestrians, if we are old enough to understand, should also be watching for the traffic. It works both ways,” he said.
