Raiders to pay tribute to their fallen and fans with carvings on the WHL Cup

Three important additions will be made to the Prince Albert Raiders when their names will be forever carved on the Ed Chynoweth Cup, the WHL championship trophy.

On stage at their WHL title celebration on Thursday at the Art Hauser Centre, Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt made sure that he submitted to the league the names of the late Ron Gunville, the director of player personnel that passed away to cancer in December, and Adam Herold, the Raiders prospect who perished in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash last April.

Hunt also announced that the Raiders will make a special third addition to the fans.

“We thought it was only fitting that we added the words ‘Our Community.’ I think that encompasses our fans, our volunteers and our board members as well,” said Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt.

During his speech, Hunt talked about how the team formed an unforgettable bond together during their championship winning season. He would know, as he was on the 1985 title-winning team as a player.

“We all walk together now, we walk together forever,” Hunt said. “It’s just an incredible feeling for these young men.”

During the celebration, fans lined up for pictures with the Ed Chynoweth Cup, as well as autographed sessions with the players.
