A partnership involving the Prince Albert Police Service, Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, and Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers (SARSAV), passed its first real test of 2019 with flying colours over the May long weekend.

Late Sunday morning, police received a report of a missing two-year-old boy. Right away numerous agencies sprang into action, including police, mobile crisis, Prince Albert Grand Council search and rescue and the Prince Albert Fire Department. Deputy Fire Chief Corey Rodgers told paNOW the search area was contained to a residential area in the 1300 block of 10th Ave. W.

“The [house] was adjacent to an open field so the fire fighters were doing some searching in that area,” he said.

About an hour later, the search was called off, as the child was located inside a family friend’s residence. Following an investigation it was determined the boy was never in danger.

The Prince Albert Police Service has entered into partner Memorandums of Understanding with PAGC and SARSAV, which guided the service in the deployment of resources to assist in the search. According to a news release from police, this was the first time in 2019 and since the signing of the MOUs that both agencies have been called upon to assist with a police investigation.
