War Amps key tags in the mail

The War Amps of Canada’s popular key tag program will soon be back for another year.

“Everyone across Prince Albert should be receiving their War Amps key tags in the mail,” said James Jordan, public awareness officer with The War Amps.

The key tag is part of the organizations lost key return service. People who want to take part in the program can do so by simply attaching the tag to their key ring. If someone finds the lost keys, they can put them in any community mailbox and they’ll be returned to the rightful owner.

“I know we return up to 15,000 sets of keys a year,” Jordan said.

There is no fee for the service, but Jordan said they hope people will considering donating since The War Amps is funded by donations to the Key Tag Service.

“We do not receive government grants at all,” he said.

The War Amps was established in 1918 to help meet the needs of war amputees. Today, they continue to help all Canadian amputees, including children, by providing them with artificial limbs or financial support so they can get what they need. Jordan, who is an amputee, said artificial limbs can cost as much as $25,000 so many people need help to buy them.

“The people that I’ve had the opportunity to meet, it’s certainly inspirational seeing them and what they can accomplish with the tools that we can provide them or at least help fund for them to have,” he said.

If people don’t receive key tags in the mail but still want to take part in the program, they can get in touch with The War Amps by phone or go online to have them sent.
