P.A apartment building evacuated

May 3, 2019 | 10:45 AM

Three people were taken to hospital Thursday night with minor injuries, following an incident at a Prince Albert apartment building.

At 8:45 p.m, the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the building in the 200 block of 14th St. W. for a possible natural gas leak. An evacuation of the structure was required due to moderate to high levels of Hydrogen Sulfide gas detected.

The source of the problem was found to be a battery for the buildings backup generator, overheating on a charger and fumes getting into the buildings air-handling unit. Once conditions in the structure were normalized, residents were allowed back in the building. The fire department was on scene for roughly one hour.
