Frank Dunn RV Sales: A legacy built on loving Saskatchewan summers

May 1, 2019 | 5:08 AM

It all started in the late 1950’s when a young couple moved to Prince Albert, SK to take over a bakery. The rest, as they say, is history.

Frank Dunn RV Sales has been a staple in the Prince Albert and area business community since 1977 and the company has expanded to include Frank Dunn Toyota, Northern Hitches and Welding and also Saskatoon RV.

With the growth and success, renovations were inevitable. They have moved to five different locations throughout Prince Albert over the years and now they are celebrating another grand re-opening May 7 to May 12.

From 13 to 40 foot trailers, Frank Dunn RV Sales offers a variety of styles to suit every lifestyle and budget.

Owner, Frank Dunn Jr. said, “My Dad was the mayor of the city until he died in 1975. In 1977, I got a call from my mom to come back. So, I made a career change. I was an Olympic diver and decided to set it aside. I moved back from Calgary and took over the business.”

Like his father, Frank Jr.’s passion for the industry is quite real. “Retail is a very dynamic business and like all professions, it requires you to develop a skill and the interaction with clients and staff, is probably what I love the most. I’ve been camping at Murray Point since I was 16 years old and maybe only missed 4 years altogether. I was always the first one there and the last to leave. I love camping and I love Saskatchewan summers.” said Dunn.

The Ostacruiser Sherp, an all-terrain amphibious vehicle, designed for rough and soggy terrain, will be featured at Frank Dunn RV Sales Grand Reopening on Saturday, May 11.

Over the years, the Frank Dunn businesses have won numerous awards including Toyota’s Dealer Quality Award – more times than any other Toyota dealer, Consumer Association of Canada Business Appreciation Award, Fleetwood Circle of Excellence and the PA Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award.

Frank Dunn Dr. also has a strong commitment to community development which he attributes to his father. They were one of the first major sponsors and continue to be the longest running supporters of the Prince Albert Raiders hockey team. They were a developer of the trails at Little Red River Park. They are also the original organizers and proud sponsors of one of Canada’s largest triathlons for over 30 years – the Frank Dunn Triathlon – held annually at Waskesiu.

The management and staff at Frank Dunn RV Sales are honoured to serve camping and RV enthusiasts from across the province.

“We even have people coming here from Saskatoon. They like what we have and they like our selection.”

After 54 years, they are still going strong and looking towards a bright future.

“The future of RV’ing looks promising,” said Dunn. “Our selection of trailers and campers has expanded exponentially. We have 148 units in stock, varying in different sizes and weights…13 feet to 40 feet. Some are lightweight to accommodate the vehicle you currently have and whether you’re just new to RV’ing or just looking for something a little different, we’re confident we can help find what you’re looking for,” he said. “An RV allows the convenience of the household with the trailer and the wilderness – your destination. It allows for time spent bonding with family, creating gold plated memories to last a lifetime.”
