The sounds of cow bells and car horns filled the night air Sunday in Prince Albert, as the WHL’s eastern conference champions returned home following their come-from-behind series win against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

For the first time in over 30 years, the Prince Albert Raiders are headed to the WHL Championship series and the team bus was welcomed home with the same sort of fanfare that has been part of the team’s departures for road games.

Fiona Siwak was among the dozens of fans who braved the crisp night to show her support.

“I say welcome home boys, you guys did it, we are so proud of you. Go Raiders,” she shouted as she rang her cow bell. “It’s just an exciting time for all of us and they’re bringing a whole lot of community spirit together and I think that’s very important.”

Another big fan TIm Sabo said he didn’t think twice about coming out late to greet the victorious team.

“They’re mentioning everything about the support of the community so we have to get behind the guys,” he said. “Look at the season we’re having it’s unreal; it’s a dream season.”

Every player and coach received a high-five from the crowd as they got off the bus.
