Nomination period opens for local R.M. byelection

Apr 18, 2019 | 5:07 PM

The Rural Municipality (R.M.) of Prince Albert is moving one step closer to electing a new reeve.

The nomination period opened Thursday and will close May 8 at 4 p.m. Nomination papers can be picked up at the R.M. office, located at 99 River Street St. E.

Administrator Roxanne Roy said all potential candidates are required to submit a criminal record check with their nomination papers.

The byelection was declared following the resignation of former Reeve Paul Rybka last December. A third party investigator found Rybka had engaged in conduct contrary to the R.M.’s code of ethics. Bylaw 15 prohibits a R]reeve from using their position to obtain a private benefit in the form of a loan or line of credit.

The advance polls are scheduled to take place June 8, with the byelection to follow on June 12.
