Beaver takes a stroll down Central Avenue

Apr 16, 2019 | 6:00 PM

It wasn’t your usual jaywalker on Central Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Passersby spotted a rotund beaver making its way downtown just before 5 p.m. A throng of spectators gathered to watch the wild animal as it made its way down the street.

Some residents, like Val Weitzel, walked along to guide traffic away from the beaver.

Weitzel said she spotted the animal near the mall and called police. She said it was the first time she had ever seen a beaver up close.

“I went to the door and used the police phone and told them about it,” Weitzel told paNOW. “And then I’ve been following him.”

Police and bylaw officers responded to the area and worked with a local pest control service and residents to cage the animal.
