It was an exciting weekend in Prince Albert for archery fans, as both the Indoor Junior Olympic Program shoot and Sask. Archery Association Indoor Provincials took place at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.

Saturday saw the Junior Olympic program shoot take place, featuring competitors aged five to 21, with more than 320 archers in attendance.

Locally, several archers from the region saw success at the competition. Those results were as follows:

Corbin Meiklejohn – Gold

Aubree Smith – Gold

Ryan Sigrist – Silver

Lawcen Horne – Silver

Kamryn Dumals – Gold

Tristan Moran – Gold

Sunday’s competition saw an even larger turnout, with more than 270 archers competing throughout the day with competitors ranging between five through 80 years of age.

Dominique Dumais, Vice-President with the Prince Albert Timberland Bowbenders said the turnout was impressive, as was the calibre of competition.

“They shoot in different age categories, and then in those categories we separate the archers by equipment – so there is compound and re-curve bows,” said Dumais.

“Today is 10 and 18 metre shoots, with a top score possible of 600 today. We figure out score based out of 10 – with the closeness to the bulls eye, closer to dead centre means a higher score.”

Dumais added that this year’s turnout was amongst the highest he had seen in the five years the competition has been hosted in Prince Albert.

“For archers in Saskatchewan this is the biggest competition, so you have people from all over coming to prove themselves,” Dumais said.

“We’re hosting the Canadian Nationals in August, that will be an outdoor course will rubber targets, so that’s something we’re really looking forward too.”

Official results from Sunday’s competition will be updated as they are announced.
