Prince Albert celebrities had their skills put to the test Saturday, as they were challenged to show off their synchronized swimming skills during the 2019 Spring Watershow.

The event, held by the Prince Albert Pikes Synchronized Swimming Club, showcased what the team had been working on, as well as featuring a variety of local celebrities challenged to keep up with the team’s physically demanding routines.

Club President Leah Liedtke said the celebrities were people the children in the club could look up to, and was designed to showcase the difficulty of the sport.

“What they are all going to do is run a typical practice and the coach is going to challenge them to see if they sink or swim,” said Liedtke.

“We’re a growing club and the name of the game here is progress. We just want more people involved and we really want to get our name out there, we have a great head coach and we just really want to keep building and growing.”

Celebrities were challenged with laps, breath holding, and figures, according to Liedtke.

The local celebrities included representatives from the City of Prince Albert, Prince Albert Police, Prince Albert Fire Department and Carlton Comprehensive School.

Chris Cherepacha, firefighter with the Prince Albert Fire Department, said the strenuous routines were more than he was expecting.

“It was a lot of fun, it’s great to come out and show support to the community. It’s a lot more exhausting than you would think,” he said..

“I definitely realized that swimming underwater isn’t my strength so I have to give props to the team. It’s always cool to try something you never thought you would try and see how much more difficult it is than you thought.”

A “Syncho-Demayo” event will be held by the swimming club at Christopher Lake during the August long weekend. Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so through the clubs official Facebook page.
