According to a media release from the government, since its establishment in 1995, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been awarded to extraordinary citizens across the province for their outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan. Tuesday’s recipients join the ranks of 204 exemplary volunteers recognized in previous years.

His Honour Thomas Molloy, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, was unable to attend the ceremony, so the medals were given out by Justice Ralph Ottenbreit.

In a statement before the event, Molloy said “by donating their time and energy, volunteers give hope and optimism to the organizations they serve.”

He added, “these impressive recipients are proof that everyone has the power to make a difference, and by giving back to our communities, they are inspiring a new generation of volunteers in our province.”
