Ministry of Highways warns of increased traffic at Broncos crash site this weekend

Apr 5, 2019 | 10:40 AM

Saskatchewan Highways and Infrastructure is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution at the intersection of Highway 35 and 335 on the one-year anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash on Saturday.

April 6, 2019 marks one year since the crash between the hockey team’s bus and a semi truck that claimed 16 lives and injured 13 others.

The weekend will bring more people to the highway memorial site at that intersection and the ministry wants travelers to be mindful of extra traffic and pedestrians.

Staff from the Ministry of Highways laid geoextile fabric to prevent the site from becoming muddy and has installed signage to reduce speed. Message boards have also been installed to remind the public of foot traffic and parked vehicles in the area.

A heavier presence of highway patrol and RCMP will also be in the area throughout the weekend.
