An emotional evening, Bruins claim victory

It was an evening of mixed emotions Sunday, as the Norway House Bruins secured a 5-3 victory over the Canoe Lake Young Guns at Prince Albert’s fifth annual Senator’s Cup.

The teams faced off in an action-packed finish to the series that had both teams digging deep until the final seconds of the game.

Although it was a terrific night of high-paced hockey action, it was also an evening of great tragedy. Shortly before puck drop, it was announced a young child had been struck and killed by a vehicle, only metres away from the front entrance of the Art Hauser Centre.

Bruins Head Coach, Andrew Simpson, said it was both a tragic, and happy night.

“It feels good, it’s a good ending for us. But for the town of P.A., the loss of a young child has hit us all in the heart, it’s just very sad.”

“I want to give my condolences to the family, it’s so tragic.”

Both teams left everything on the ice and it was the Bruins who prevailed after a successful tournament.

Bruins MVP player, Skylar Tait-Reaume, said it was a hard fought game, but he felt the win was deserved.

“It was a difficult game. We didn’t have the lead going into the second, but we all came back firing and took the lead and just held onto it,” he said.

“We’re just a group of boys that have been playing all of our lives together. We come firing every weekend and we always dig deep.”
