Filling up your gas tank in Prince Albert is going to take a bigger bite out of your wallet.

Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com said since the beginning of March there has been an increase five to eight cents a litre.

“The good days of lower prices might be behind us.” Dan McTeague

McTeague added the increase isn’t going to stop there, with a rise in price predicted for the beginning of April in P.A.

“You’re treated to another 4.6 percent a litre increase,” McTeague explained. “Best case scenario (the price is going to be), probably a lot closer a $1.20 compare to the $1.149 we’re seeing today.”

McTeague said an increased demand in gasoline during the summer months and a low Canadian dollar contribute to the high pump price.

“Because the dollar is so weak, because of our commodity problems not being able to get oil to market, (it) costs you and I an extra 14 to 15 cents a litre,” McTeague said.

Overall, McTeague said it might be a while till we see lower gas prices.

“The good days of lower prices might be behind us,” he said.

Before you start complaining to your local gas station, McTeague said stations aren’t marking up prices very high from where they purchase the fuel.

“On a day that we’re playing a $1.149, it’s costing most gas stations, $1.11 to $1.12 to buy their fuel.”

McTeague added pump prices will likely see another increase when the Carbon Tax comes into effect.
